Ink Chemist (Specialist Printing)

Hertfordshire, Upto £45k

Our Client is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers who develop leading-edge products and systems, often based on new and emerging technologies.  Their work includes development of products, instruments and systems in a diverse range of fields including industrial, consumer, healthcare and life science.  In support, they are seeking an Ink Chemist to join an expanding team that is now delivering or revolutionary digital
printing technology into the marketplace.

The role will involve formulating specialised inks from laboratory scale through to manufacture and will encompass both direct hands-on activity and close liaison with our Clients global manufacturing partners. This position will be responsible for maintaining our existing ink products and for developing new ones.

The candidate should also have relevant experience and demonstrable skills in the following:

  • Colloidal dispersion and measurement
  • Formulation (preferably of inks)
  • Industrial manufacturing

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • A BSc with a 1st or 2.1 class in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent, and a PhD from a leading institute.
  • Must have substantial industrial experience working within product development environment.
  • Good knowledge of organic chemistry as used in ink formulations
  • Hands-on experience with standard laboratory techniques;
  • Prior experience with inkjet inks formulation, inkjet media, and colour science will be an advantage
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment, researching, preparing and evaluating solvent and oil based pigment dispersion and  associated ink formulations
  • Ability to effectively plan and perform experiments to ensure delivery of results in a timely manner.
  • Ability to interpret experimental results and make recommendations both written and verbally in a concise manner.
  • Knowledge and experience in using Root Cause Analysis and other systematic problem solving as well as Design OF Experiments (DOE) methods
