Responsible to the Principle Engineer Electrical/Electronic Engineering, the position will embrace some or all of the following functions in a true simultaneous engineering environment:

  • Product Engineering/Development.
  • Ownership of design and/or development of exterior and interior lighting components from concept to production to meet program functional, cost, timing, quality, weight and legislative requirements.
  • Utilising CAD tools to design and interrogate commodity CAD produced by the supplier. Primary CAD tool is NX (IDEAS).
  • Lead engineering and design reviews to develop the commodity requirements.
  • Supplier liaison and management.
  • Component Releasing , Change Control and Concern management.
  • Completion of DFMEA, Lessons Learnt documents.
  • Control of Design Verification Plans and Sign off Report
  • Prototype parts procurement and prototype vehicle build support (supervision of build technicians)
  • Development testing as required
  • PMST leadership of responsible components - Service, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Legislation, STA etc
  • Ensuring that robust commodity plans are created and managed to deliver the commodities
  • Relevant equivalent experience in the delivery of lighting components.

    An exciting opportunity to join a world-class team responsible for the design and delivery of 10 million high-performance brushless motor-drive units per year for automotive electric steering.

    This client leads the field in many areas of design and research, and employs cutting-edge technologies such as sensorless control and advanced acoustic-noise reduction algorithms developed in-house.

    This is a very fast-paced sector requiring advanced product-design and problem-solving skills. The role covers the entire product cycle from concept to post production with short design cycle times and high production volumes. You will also have opportunity to travel to many customers and suppliers around the world.
    What you ll do

    Electro-magnetic design, analysis and optimisation of motors and sensors, including use of
    finite element based simulation
    Customisation and development of design and optimization tools, whilst developing programming
    skills in e.g. Matlab and C
    Develop software for test automation, data processing and analysis
    Support business win activities for high volume automotive applications
    Support magnetic material analysis and testing
    Support TRW and supplier motor manufacturing
    What we are looking for

    Essential:
    Physics or Electrical Engineering degree, preferably including electro-magnetics or electrical
    machine design and analysis
    A level (or equivalent) maths and physics, plus GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in
    English and Maths
    Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    Enthusiasm, self motivation, and efficient organizational skills

    Desirable:
    Experience of writing computer programs - particularly Matlab/Simulink, C or LabView
    Effective communication skills
    Willingness to travel to customers, suppliers and conferences, occasionally abroad
    Flexibility to adapt in an exciting, fast paced working environment
