REQUIREMENTS: Due to the expansion of the finite element analysis (FEA) services offered, there is a vacancy for a Senior Engineer to carry out non-linear FEA. FEA is used to simulate the performance of components and materials to correlate with laboratory testing and to predict in service performance. The work is carried for industrial clients from various sectors including oil and gas, aerospace and defence, civil, rail, automotive and medical devices.

DESCRIPTION: Senior Polymer Engineer - Finite Element Analysis required for this growing independent materials research company. The role is based in Hertfordshire and is commutable from Hitchin, Stevenage, Hatfield, Luton and Bedford.

VAC REQ :For this role, you will have proven industry experience with the following:
Demonstrated technical experience and expertise in non-linear analysis methods preferably using ABAQUS/Standard or Marc. Non-linear modelling of materials (preferably elastomers, polymers, plastics etc), contact and geometrical nonlinearities. Anisotropic modelling of composites or secondary reinforced materials. Structural modelling and sub-modelling, use of global local modelling. Modelling of cracks, fracture and fatigue. A good degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. A high standard of English, both written and verbal.

In addition, the following would be desirable: Knowledge of the non-linear material properties of elastomeric materials. Demonstrated expertise in the validation of non-linear finite element models and methods using correlation with test data. Knowledge of a programming language such as Fortran and Python. Knowledge and practical experience of experimental test methods. Experience of one or more relevant industrial sectors.

They are looking for a process driven engineer who has implemented methodologies in a similar role within the automotive sector. The implementation experience is essential as they will be looking for you to use previous experience to work towards TS accreditation among other things.

This role is heavily based upon the updating and maintaining of PFMEA’s, process flow charts, scrap reduction (7W) and RCA; some of the role will be in relation to NPI so it is essential you feel comfortable with bringing new products through the early stages to production.  Your background co0uld be from Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing or Production but it is essential that it comes from an automotive environment (be it an OEM or a Tier 1 or 2 supplier).

Job Purpose:
