Our client is a world-leader in the provision of project management, technical engineering and construction services to the Water industry, on programs ranging from Water Supply, Treatment and Storage to Water Resources Management and Coastal Restoration. They are currently looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor at their Derby office on a 6-month contract basis.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide Quantity Surveying services and ensure that all contractual and financial entitlements are fulfilled.

You will have responsibility for:
- Assistance to Project Managers on commercial matters
- Assistance in preparation, submission and agreement of interim payment applications to maximise the company's cashflow
- Co-ordination to ensure contractual requirements are compiled with
- General commercial management of sub-contractors
- Accurate and efficient measurement, identification and measurement of variations
- Production and agreement of final accounts and additional cost claims
- Placing sub contact orders and agreement of subcontract final accounts
- Ensuring that income from interim applications is received on time
- Liaison and co-ordination to ensure financial report is timely and accurate
- Preparation of Bills of Quantities, budgets take-offs

Applicants must have a BTech - Higher level (preferably degree qualified in Quantity Surveying) plus:
- Preferably knowledge of water/wastewater industry
- Civil or Mechanical Engineering background
- Several years' experience
- Knowledge of NEC3 form of contract
- Studying towards membership of an appropriate recognised professional institution

Major activities will include but is not limited to:

Advice and assist clients in order to help them comply with their duties, in particular their duty to appoint competent designers and contractors, and to ensure adequate arrangements are in place for managing the project.

Notify Health and Safety Executive about the project using form F10 and keep up to date.

Co-ordinate design work, planning and other preparation for construction where relevant to health and safety.

Identify and collect pre-construction information and advise the client if surveys need to be commissioned to fill significant gaps.

Manage the flow of health and safety information between clients, designers and contractors (usually by means of a CDM risk register or by
using Lend Lease ROAD process).

Advise the client as to the suitability of the initial construction phase plan and the arrangements made to ensure that welfare facilities are
on site from the start of the project.

Produce or update a relevant, user friendly, health and safety file at the end of the construction phase.

Our Client is a privately owned Group of companies based in the UK with a growing portfolio of Aerospace, Industrial Gas Turbine and Industrial customers.  On this basis, an opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer to work from their Birmingham site.  Their focus is for precision machining, testing and assembly of performance-critical gas turbine engine components for commercial and military aircraft and industrial power
generation.

As Manufacturing Engineer, the purpose of the job is to develop both new and existing components in line with the duties and responsibilities listed below. You will be responsible for:

  • Successfully manage NPI projects to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Conduct regular project meetings
  • Develop robust manufacturing processes for a range of precision components
  • Liaise directly with customer technical departments to resolve process related issues
  • Configure machines to suit project requirements
  • Work directly with suppliers to ensure the latest innovations in fixtures & tooling are employed
  • Utilise solid models using CATIA V5, Solidworks and Vericut to produce and validate CNC programmes
  • Produce detailed project documentation, set up packs, SOP’s etc.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure all aspects of the projects are completed on time
  • Pay specific attention to ‘project detail’

You must be an experienced Manufacturing Engineer from a strong CNC machining background and be fully conversant with modern manufacturing techniques.  In addition:

  • You must be dynamic and enthusiastic with direct experience of machining precision prismatic and large precision turned components.
  • You will have knowledge of CAD CAM systems with Solid Works and CATIA being a distinct advantage
  • Have an understanding where process requirements such as heat treatment and coatings are carried out
  • Have strong project management skills with the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Experience of APQP, PFMEA’s with proven track record of NPI
  • The ability to implement Lean techniques is essential

The group contains two functional elements, one focussed on new process development and new product introduction, the other focussed on line engineering support to CCD Post processing.

Primarily, you will be:

  • Technical lead for the group, ensuring continuous development and drive towards best practice processes
  • Responsible for resource planning and allocation to meet current and predicted project requirements
  • Responsible for carrying out performance management reviews and driving forward training and development plans for the group, within budgetary constraints

- To produce electrical schematic and arrangement drawings for contracts using AutoCAD 2004/Electrical Designer CAD packages, Rittal Eplan P8 and Electrical Works.
- To produce specifications for bought out electrical equipment and parts lists for manufacture of control systems.
- To provide technical support and to liaise with other departments.
- To provide information to enable technical manuals and test procedures to be produced.
