Principle Accountabilities:
The production of Design Schemes, including CAD models assemblies and 2D drawings for concept and detail designs of electrical machines.
To carry out design calculations such as interference fits, thermal growths, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analysis to support concept and detail designs.
To liaise closely with other project team members such as stress, manufacturing, sourcing and configuration with respect to new designs or design changes.
Should be educated to Degree or equivalent level in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Should be an experienced and competent CAD user
Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members, suppliers and customers.
Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them.
Must be able to produce designs with consideration of design to cost, and ease of manufacture and assembly.

You will primarily be responsible for all aspects of draughting for product development and production purposes. This will include initial drawing creation, checking, drawing updates and also maintaining configuration control across a range of products. These products include aircraft generators, starters, actuator motors and associated control electronics. Your experience will mean you`ll be competent with a mainstream CAD package (e.g. Catia v5, NX6.0, I-deas), have a good grasp of configuration control principles and of change control management methods. Alongside this you will be tasked on occasion to support the detail design process, refine initial designs and assist in developing design solutions and improvements.
To excel in this position you`ll ideally be qualified to HNC level or above in an appropriate engineering discipline, or will hold equivalent experience, and will have excellent technical and analytical skills developed in an engineering drawing office environment. Your background might include experience as a draughtsman, CAD Engineer or in another technical drawing role. A good grounding in engineering drawing practices (e.g. BS.308) and exposure to change control procedures is highly advantageous. The Calibration Engineer will be a part of the engineering team and be responsible for engine calibration development to achieve new levels of emissions legislation, fuel economy targets and application requirements.
The Calibration Engineer s activities will be drawn from, but not limited to, the following:

Writing and execute test programmes to confirm and calibrate fuel injection equipment and engine management systems to be suitable for meeting emissions legislation.

Test bed and machine engine calibration activities to deliver correct air / fuel and hence meet emissions legislation.

Systematic calibration of ECU parameters through efficient and effective test programmes for varying FIE/engine/vehicle features.

Managing the delivery of calibration sets to customer.

Developing testing and sign-off procedures to facilitate the continual improvement of departmental effectiveness.

The successful applicant will be educated to a minimum of degree level with an understanding of cutting edge engine operations specialising in diesel fuel injection equipment specialising in the heavy duty environment.

Ideally engine and vehicle calibration experience of electronically controlled FIE systems.



Areas of calibration experience will include:

Fuel path calibration (Rig and engine based)

Model based torque coordination

Air Path

Speed governor

Drivability and performance

Transient emissions optimisation


Experience with calibration processes and tool-chains such as ATI Vision, ETAS Inca, AVL Cameo, Concerto and Puma would be desirable.
