Control Systems Engineer
West Midlands, England

The Role

We are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to develop, specify and implement EPS control algorithms to deliver system level performance requirements. The role is ideally suited to an engineer with detailed understanding of control theory and application backed up with a sound knowledge of a range of engineering disciplines covering the electronics and mechanics, the sensing elements and the electrical actuation of the system. You will work closely with other team members on all aspects of control-related activities.
What you ll do
Develop robust control solutions for elements of the EPS system. Including the design of controller dynamics, specification of the controller design, supervision and sign-off of the controller implementation, verification of the controller function and documentation of the controller performance and the method of tune at vehicle level.
Review customer requirements, elicit or capture explanation information and generate necessary software requirements documents or specification analysis documents.
Define and issue software requirements specifications for control functions.
Develop implementations of control functions using embedded C and/or automatic code generation from controller models using tools such as Target link.
Investigate control performance issues, establish root cause and issue fault reports.
Support existing activities to produce, document and maintain Simulink Model Specification Documents of the EPS system and sub-systems. Generate test vectors for software analysis and validation. Monitor and review test results, and assist with performing system-level software testing and integration.
What we are looking for

Essential:
2.1 or better degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Excellent understanding of control techniques and methods
Either a higher degree in control engineering or lengthy experience in a range of control techniques and methods coupled with a pragmatic approach to real-world control engineering.
Broad experience with Matlab and Simulink. Experience of automatic code generation from models using tools such as Targetlink.
Experience of real-time embedded software (using C) and system engineering.
Practical experience in the fields of simulation, modelling of dynamic systems, controller design, discrete-time systems and fixed-point implementations.
Able to work flexibly in a multi-disciplinary team and on own initiative.
Experience in automotive control and vehicle-based electronically controlled systems. Vehicle chassis dynamics, electric drives or electro-mechanical systems will be an advantage.
