SENIOR (ELECTRIC-MOTOR) DESIGN ENGINEER (Automotive)

Reporting to: Electric Motor Engineering Manager
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Flexi-Time however Core Hours are required)
Salary (experience driven): Salary band is from £35K to £45K with Company benefits to be discussed

Summary:
Our Client is looking for a Senior Mechanical design Engineer to support the development, testing and design of its innovative in-wheel motor technology. The position is "hands-on" and involves all aspects of development from specification, analysis, design, optimisation, prototype testing and verification/refinement to production sign-off.

The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work at the forefront of green technology in the new field of electric vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Detailing specifications from outline briefs.
- Producing concept designs and determining feasibility.
- Producing detailed simulation analysis with the use of finite-element software and thermal/fluid modelling techniques.
- Optimisation of designs, exploring specific design issues such as mechanical assembly or maximisation of heat transfer.
- Evaluation of prototypes and refining the details of designs when necessary.
- Liaison with suppliers.
- Producing engineering reports and presentations to management.
- Providing technical support to other departments when required.
- Supporting DFMEA activities.
- Checking Engineering drawings to BS8888.

Required Experience
- An ideal candidate will have 5 years' experience in the design of mechanical power transmission, engine systems, or electric motors preferably from an automotive component environment.
- Experience of using 2D/3D analytical and finite element design software.
- Track record of modelling and getting theoretical designs into manufacture.
- Good theoretical and practical knowledge of electric motors and generators.

Education required (Minimum)
BEng/BSc or beyond in Mechanical Design, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Skills and Abilities
- Computer literate with some analytical skills
- Highly organised with the ability to stay focused.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under supervision in a team environment.

Preferred Experience
- Experience of working in an ISO9001 environment.
- Research and Development work.
- Familiarity with electric motors and motor design.
- CAD Suite experience with: Solidworks 2012 drafting and modelling/ good working knowledge of mechanical drawings.
- FEA and CFD Experience preferably using Solidworks.
- Working in an ISO9001 environment.
- Working in an automotive quality environment.
