Manufacturing Engineer - Composites (Southampton), Contract c £35/hr

Our Client is a Global supplier of aerospace and defence components.  Based near Southampton, this particular site is focused on the development and manufacture of structural components, canopies and nacelles.

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) for Composites will demonstrate accountability for the cost effective production engineering of new and existing  aero structure products whilst meeting all safety, quality and regulatory criteria. The ME will identify and utilise best practice processes where  practicable optimising key resources such as machine, labour and material.

Specifically, you will be capable of implementing sound engineering solutions and have a good understanding and evidence of Continuous Improvement and Lean manufacturing implementation.  In addition:
• Create, modify or improve engineering processes and create/modify Bill of Material (BoM) as required.
• Create detail manufacturing plans defining the method of manufacture taking due consideration of customer specification, tooling, quality/inspection, cost and production processes.
• Support design for manufacture activities on New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes.
• Assist with creating Process Qualification documents for new and existing customers.
• Investigate and resolve detail and assembly shop queries.
• Embody customer modifications to existing processes.
• Perform COSHH assessments on new material introduction.
• Perform Risk Assessments within the manufacturing environment.
• Conduct cost/benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment.
• Support EHS projects.
• Identify and implement process Improvement / cycle time reduction.
• Perform Risk Assessments within the manufacturing environment.
• Support the quality function through integration of QC documentation and Manufacturing methods Instructions.
• Track/drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues.
• Utilize lean-manufacturing principles and participate in action workouts to improve process capability, reduce overall costs and increase capacity.

You will preferably be Degree qualified in a Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering related discipline and have good composites experience, preferably within an aerospace manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity of CAD/CAM programs, Enovia DMU and/or CATIA would be an advantage plus knowledge of business systems such as MRP also preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma qualifications or experience preferred.
• Project planning skills.
• H & S qualifications and Lean manufacturing qualifications preferred.
• Apprenticeship trained desirable.

Prepared to travel within the UK to meet the customer and/or suppliers (plus possible overseas travel).
