A world leader in the innovation, design and manufacture of Diesel Fuel Injection equipment currently has an opening for an Engineering Patent Liaison to assist in developing an intimate knowledge of the Diesel Systems patent portfolio, for which training will be given. That knowledge will be called upon to enable informed decisions to be taken with regard to growth, maintenance, enforcement and licensing of the patent portfolio. The requisite knowledge will be developed whilst conducting the tasks set out below. Preferably applicants will be degree educated within an engineering subject, have knowledge of engine/powertrain, ideally diesel applications, be analytical, organised and systematic with excellent IT skills.
The Engineering Patent Liaison will be required to handle to following tasks:
*Classification of Diesel Systems patents applications and patents utilising the patent portfolio classification system
*Regular review of the patent portfolio to identify cases which no longer need to be prosecuted / maintained
*Construction and maintenance of the patent Sharepoint site (in co-operation with the Patent Administrator)
*Provision of engineering input to the Patent Review Board meetings held on various sites, to complement patent input to the meetings provided by the Patent Administrator
*Provision of patent information to the Engineering Staff, on a global and individual basis.
*Assisting inventors with the Record of Invention process
*Management of the monetary awards payments
*Conducting patent infringement and validity searches
*Monitoring competitor and market activity, for example through patent watches
*Liasing between Engineering Staff and Legal Staff in the preparation of agreements, for example non-disclosure agreements, collaboration agreements, etc.
*Co-ordination of patent workshops to identify patentable subject-matter.
The Engineering Patent Liaison will be qualified with an Engineering degree, supported by Engineering knowledge and understanding of the products manufactured by Diesel Systems companies in order to provide technical information when required. No experience of the patent process is necessary (training will be provided and the opportunity for gaining a professional qualification may be offered), though due to the nature of the Patent Process and the management of the portfolio, you will need to be highly systematic, efficient and accurate.
