Principal Engineer - Steering Electronics

This is an exciting opportunity to join a world-class team responsible for delivering high-performance electric and hydraulic power steering systems.
The design of electric steering systems is extremely challenging requiring safety-critical steering systems at automotive costs. Leading the field in many areas of design and research, and employs cutting-edge design technologies such as electric power steering assemblies.

This is a very fast-paced sector requiring advanced product-design and problem-solving skills for programmes with short design cycle times and high production volumes. The role involves electronic and motor applications design and the management of internal/external suppliers to deliver Electronic Power Packs (EPP) to demanding safety and quality standards.
What you ll do
Support electronic and electron-mechanical design cost reductions of high-performance safety-critical steering systems
Manage external and in-house design changes to meet the safety, quality and performance requirements on-time and in budget
Manage staged design reviews to procedures
Define the mechanical, electrical and validation requirements
Liaise with other functions to ensure System level compliance
Design/develop design changes, development and problem solving tools to achieve Right First Time solutions
Manage the Value Management Data (VMD) to track savings and provide management updates monthly
What are we looking for:
Essential
* Educated to engineering degree standard
* Good project management and communication skills
*Appreciation of motor design with a good knowledge of manufacturing technologies
*Flexibility to adapt in an exciting fast paced working environment
* Willingness to travel

Desirable
*Experience in high volume manufacture of electronic products
*Strong understanding of electronics design and test
