Tooling Design Engineer - Composites

Our client is a first tier supplier to the global aviation industry. A leader in the manufacture of highly complex composite and metallic aerostructures and engine products, their business is equally focused on military and civil markets.
Based on the Isle of Wight, as Tooling Design Engineer - Composites you will have a good understanding of the aerospace composite industry, proficient in tool design and construction ethods and will demonstrate experience of delivering "tool concept" through to physical hardware to time and cost.
The scope of the tooling will range from large metallic mould tools constructed by either fabricated construction or a cast construction up to a weight of 6 tonnes. You will possess a keen attention to detail with the associated handling equipment and more general process tooling such as machining fixtures and smaller component detail tooling. The tooling will integrate features such as moving parts, splits and heating elements, in addition the tooling may also have a requirement to integrate with automated processes such as automatic deposition or robotic assembly.
You will need to:
- Have previous experience of tool design, development and construction from within aerospace show an in depth knowledge of the use of CATIA V5 for both 3-D modelling using various work benches such as assembly design, part design, generative shape design (surfacing) and the 2D package of Draft and its application when applied to tool design
- have a working knowledge of geometrical tolerance and effects of thermal expansion is essential
- have experience of supporting tools through their manufacture (on or off site) through to the final commissioning phase
