Motor Control Engineer - EDG
West Midlands, England

The Role:
The TRW EDG is developing world-leading technology in its area of expertise and has state of the art facilities. You will be responsible for motor control design, implementation and testing, covering both development of new advanced motor control algorithms and their application to high volume automotive products. You will work across the full product cycle from concept phase through to post production. The primary design targets are high integrity for safety critical applications, high efficiency, low torque ripple, high power density and low cost to suit mass production (More than 1 million units per year)
What you`ll do

* Develop new motor control concept algorithms for low cost, high performance, high safety integrity automotive electric drive systems
*Support development, implementation and testing of sensorless algorithms
*Support the analysis and improvement of acoustic noise and torque ripple performance due to motor control, inverter non-linearities and structural dynamics of the motor
*Formally specify requirements for algorithms for implementation by the production software teams
*Implement and tune vector control algorithms for permanent magnet motors:
- Debug new algorithms on fixed point embedded processors in C
- Assist in the testing, debugging and tuning of production motor control software
- Support the development of lab tools for control of test rigs and post processing/analysis of test data
What we are looking for

Essential:
*Educated to engineering degree or PhD standard with a high content of permanent magnet motor control design
*Experience in developing advanced motor control algorithms
*Good skills in embedded software using C
*Experience with laboratory test methods and data processing for motors and their associated control
*Flexibility to adapt in an exciting fast paced working environment
Desirable:
*Self motivated and able to work without direct supervision
*Excellent communication skills, particularly reporting
*Experience of sensorless control algorithm development
