A great opportunity exists for a talented Electrochemist to join this Centre of Excellence for the development of Electric, Hybrid and conventionally powered passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Based on a very attractive university campus, the centre employs over 250 Engineers and enjoys the support and continuous investment of its parent company enabling it to grow and further develop its expertise across all areas of vehicle engineering. Following recent successes on low carbon vehicle technology programmes and to support its development of energy storage devices a brand new state of the art laboratory has been built housing test, development and low volume manufacturing facilities. To support its activities the new role of Principal Battery Technologist has been created.
Located in Coventry the centre is commutable from Oxford, Birmingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Leamington Spa.

The main activities and tasks for this job are:
- To support energy storage characterisation, testing and evaluation activities and assist with the development of battery technologies' long term strategy for the Centre. This will include but is not limited to:
o Assist with defining testing protocols to support programme work
o Perform tests agreed in collaborative testing programmes between the Centre and other partner organisations
o Analyse test results comparing performance of battery cells or other storage devices
o Write reports detailing conclusions and recommendations
o Utilise test data to form theories for underlining mechanisms of battery degradation
- Work with relevant team members to utilise data for modelling and prediction activities and to support validation of in-house module design
- Support the development of the technology road map for energy storage devices
- Assist with the identification of promising new technologies for energy storage
- Occasional travel to Europe and India

Candidate ideal core requirements are:
- A first Degree in Chemistry, Physics or Physical Sciences, ideally also a MSc or PhD
- Strong numeracy and literacy
- A minimum of 3 years industry experience as an Electrochemist working on Lithium-ion battery development and manufacture
- Practical experience of testing and test equipment
- Proven experience of data analysis, development of theories and application of test data in new programmes
- Good logical reasoning
- Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Chartered or working toward it
