A major player in the automotive industry with 100 years of automotive experience are now looking for a Buyer / Senior Buyer to manage the external supplier relationship, whilst ensuring value for money in the procurement of bought out materials, for both current production and new model year development.



The Buyer will also be required to continuously investigate cost reduction opportunities, in support of the business objectives and whilst achieving a good standard of quality and service.

Responsibilities and duties:

Provide purchasing support to the plant

Negotiate cost reductions with non-customer directed suppliers and where applicable for Direct and Indirect materials and services.

Rationalise the supply base where possible, especially on MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) whilst considering low cost sourcing opportunities, quality and logistics requirements.

Contribute towards plant VA/VE initiatives, whilst ensuring support is given to the cross-functional plant teams.

Issuing RFQ s to current and potential suppliers, for new CTO initiatives and current programmes.

Support SQA with obtaining supplier charge back costs, for down time, customer stoppages and rejects.

Ensure all cost downs are activated and captured on the agreed date of commencement.

Supplier price maintenance, in line with PCR and authorization approval from Central purchasing.

Supporting PDT s (Product Dev Team) for programme and model year changes.

Liaise with Central Purchasing on better buying initiatives, leverage negotiations and support where applicable.
Support other UK plants as and when required, but primarily single plant responsibility.
The successful candidate will be educated to HNC/HND standard and preferably CIPS and VA/VE and VFM Knowledge.
Knowledge of working with mainframe systems such as SAP and BPIC`s.



Must be a strong negotiator with excellent cost reduction track record. Analytical, accurate, performance and results orientated.



Also the Buyer must have lateral thinking and pro-active approach to problem solving who is flexible and adaptable to change.

Must have the ability to work under pressure to expected deadlines with a good standard of integrity in all business relationships.
