Senior Specialist Engineer - Software Design

A leading supplier to the global aerospace industry. Its products and services support every major civil and military aerospace programme in the western world, from helicopters to the latest generation of commercial and military jets.

This role is based in Buckinghamshire, close to the M1 and is commutable from Aylesbury, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes and Luton.

You will be responsible for developing embedded real-time software for control units for electrical power systems or electric motor controllers within aircraft. The software is safety-critical, complying with the requirements of RTCA/DO-178B (level A or B) and comprises Control and Protection, Communications (Serial UART, SPI, ARINC 429, ARINC 664 and MIL-STD 1553) and Built-in-Test software. The tasks include generation of textual high-level requirements and decomposing these into low-level requirements (detail design). To achieve the detailed design the team will use the Matlab/ Simulink/ Stateflow toolset, producing graphical design documentation or write the requirements in plain English. All the requirements are managed within the DOORS requirement management tool, ensuring full traceability. Ada source code shall be auto-generated from the Matlab diagrams using the Beacon tool or manually produced from the specifications.

Basic Qualifications : Ideally posses the following:
1. A proactive style, team spirit, high energy level, and positive outlook.
2. Good English written and verbal communication skills.
3. A high level of expertise in software design for safety-critical applications.
4. At least 3 years experience of the Ada programming language.
5. Experience of real-time control applications.
6. Experience with Freescale Power PC processors (particularly the MPC5554)
7. A relevant degree or equivalent or specialist software training.
8. Experience with the software tools Simulink/Stateflow, Matlab, DOORS, VectorCAST and Dimensions.
9. Familiarity with RTCA/DO-178B.
10. Understanding of the principles of configuration management.
11. Some knowledge of electronic circuit design.
