A World leader in the innovation, design and manufacture of diesel fuel injection equipment are now looking for a Design Engineer. The successful Design Engineer will work under the supervision of a Principal Engineer on design activities at the concept, definitive and detail stage of new products.  This position can be based in either Gloucester or London.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

To create new Heavy Duty diesel injection system concepts
To undertake analysis and work with Analysis team
To produce accurate and detailed manufacturing drawings
To prepare for and participate in presentations to customers
To liaise with customers, the Diesel systems technical facility in London and subcontractors using phone/fax/ e-mail/video conference and meetings
To plan work activities effectively and to support project planning
To participate in FMEA and DFA/DFM activities
To assist in arranging meetings and compiling agendas and minutes
To document design decisions and analysis methods and results
To contribute to Total Quality, ISO/TS 16949 and continuous improvement activities within design department and business
To focus on completing activities to tight schedules

The Design Engineer will hold a degree in mechanical engineering or similar with proven experience in design of mechanical systems, preferably high precision, highly stressed and mass produced components.
Must have proven understanding of the principles of physics and mechanical engineering ideally with a familiarity of the physics of dynamics and hydraulics.

The ability to study a problem, identify appropriate analysis techniques and undertake the analysis or interact with analysis specialists (CFD,FEA) with a thorough understanding of detail drawing and geometric tolerancing.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes eg. grinding, heat treatment, injection moulding
Self motivation and initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
Experience in the use of Excel/Matlab to perform calculations, analysis and simulations
CAD experience, preferably with Solidworks, would be an advantage
Knowledge of direct injection diesel principles
