Working for a successful aerospace manufacturing group in Birmingham, we are seeking a Buyer to join their machining and processing operation.  This role will support their class leading NPI process, supplier obligations, production readiness and resolution of any commercial and/or programme issues/risks ensuring cost targets are met.

This role will develop and implement world class sourcing processes with KPI’s, demonstrable control and continuous improvement, as well as a clear documented Sourcing Methodology.  You will also ensure early supplier input to Projects, ensuring that leverage is applied to achieve programme targets and maximise competitive business advantage through the life of contracts.

Your main role will be:

  • To develop New Sourcing routes where applicable
  • To raise purchase orders and agree lead times with suppliers which meet production requirements
  • To bring synergy to the company supply base, inline with standard terms of purchase
  • To evaluate and develop approved supply chains from UK and LCC
  • To report measures of performance for sourcing activity to enable Group improvement
  • Establishing and agreeing material cost targets and track actual cost and variance
  • To ensure material cost drivers are understood and visible to the project teams, engineers and estimators
  • To ensure parts are available on time to schedule / projects, realising opportunities to compress lead times and reduce time to market where ever possible
  • To ensure suppliers are capable of meeting the agreed quality standards
  • To ensure that a robust and appropriate supply chain is in place capable of meeting the project and schedule requirements
  • Managing supplier and material source changes
  • Managing contract negotiations which will encompass Customer Flow Down, Long Term Agreements, Frame Work Agreements and Price Agreements
  • Use Value Analysis and Value Engineering
  • Ensuring supplier input to design, to achieve most cost effective solution
  • Developing and maintaining suppliers to become best practice sources
  • Responsible for purchase of consumable’s and services that are purchased through the main system.
  • Participate with stock takes when required.

To support this central and specific position, you must have a demonstrated ability to manage Sourcing covering both Strategy creation and implementation.  Within an engineering, design and manufacturing environment, excellent communication skills and relevant knowledge is required.

The role will require the individual to be familiar with the complete range of sourcing activities and be able to demonstrate extensive hands on experience of material procurement from domestic and global sources.
