Business Improvement Engineer – Hertfordshire - £35k

Do you know how to look at manufacturing processes and identify routes and opportunities for improvement?  If so, our client is seeking a Business Improvement Engineer to support their activity with airframe and engine manufacturers, system integrators and other 1st tier customers.

As specialists in hot and cold forming, sheet metal components, assemblies, fabrications, thermal insulation and protection, this role will be responsible to Identify, Lead and Execute business cost savings programs through structured Kaizen projects.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Complete time studies for manufacturing processes, sequence processes, and material handling flow as needed
  • Analyse processes for efficiency gains and waste elimination
  • Implement new technology/processes to drive continuous improvement
  • Support all plants in achieving their continuous improvement goals
  • Maintain tracking and reporting of projects
  • Lead change towards operational excellence, and assist in the continual improvement of the system, process and product
  • Manage risks, set direction and lead the way to breakthrough improvement
  • Stimulate management thinking by proposing new ways of doing things
  • Challenge conventional wisdom by demonstrating successful application of new methodologies, seeking out and piloting new tools, and creating innovative thinking

You should have experience of:

  • Leading projects/activities across a range of Manufacturing Engineering Processes
  • Manufacturing change in a suitable combination of ways, such as facility re-design, facility move, technology insertion, new product introduction, process revalidation, quality improvement.

You will need to have a Professional Engineering Qualification ideally CEng, or working towards CEng.  In addition, have;

  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing and assembly operations experience
  • Lean Manufacturing methodologies, training and/or implementation experience
  • Statistical knowledge and labour analysis skills (time studies)
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office: and Minitab
  • Training in problem solving methodologies.
  • Process Planning exposure

At a minimum must be able to demonstrate the following supported by project based evidence:

  • VSM – SMED – 7 Wastes – 5s – TPM / OEE – Line Balancing – Standard Work – TOC – JIT – Kanban systems.
