Operations Engineer (Marking Materials)

Our client has an established global reputation for the continual development and manufacture of its total coding and printing technologies that meet the needs of manufacturers and sets new industry standards in quality and reliability.
They are now looking for an Operations NPI Engineer (Marking Materials) to work with the Development and Manufacturing team in the creation of new group wide products and to ensure that all new products are developed and introduced into manufacture effectively and efficiently. Liaising between the suppliers, internal manufacturing teams and the development team to bring about continuous improvement in Marking Materials, during new product introduction. You will ensure that the highest level of quality and process effectiveness is built into manufacturing.
As the Operations Engineer you will be responsible for the following:
Lead and take part in Design and Process FMEA s.
Approve engineering drawing, Bills of Material and component specifications
Identification, audit and approval of suppliers to suit the required technology
Management of BoM cost to target including supplier negotiation
Prototype material procurement and quality development through to PPAP completion utilising statistical evaluation
Contract negotiation and completion
The generation of new assembly and test instructions.
Planning of above activities to ensure timely completion in line with gateway reviews
The successful applicant will hold an honours degree or equivalent (i.e. recognised status
by a professional institute), preferably in manufacturing, quality or production engineering, with proven experience in a manufacturing environment. Ideally you will have experience of process industry manufacturing and particular experience of ink manufacturing would be an advantage. You will understand best practice approach to variation reduction and ideally would be qualified to at least 6 sigma green belt level.
You will be flexible, a level thinker and capable of solving wide-ranging technical problems with a firm character and be able to work as a team member or alone as the situation demands. You will be able to communicate with people at all levels in the organisation and complete tasks on time using appropriate planning tools with the minimum of supervision.
Flexibility with travel is essential as the development and manufacturing sites are split between Cambridge and Liverpool and it is estimated that you will split your time between them. Other plants in Asia and USA may also require visits from time to time.
