Design Engineer
Warrington, Buckinghamshire, England

We are recruiting for a Design Engineer on a onging contract based in Runcorn, Cheshire.

As Design Engineer, the role will sit within the design department involving conceptual and detail design of aircraft undercarriages.

You will be responsible to the Chief Designer the role will specifically involve:

* Conceptual design and feasibility
- Assessment of electrical technologies and incorporation into our clients products
- Electrical actuation, instrumentation and sensors
- Understanding impact to product architecture
- Introduction of instrumentation and sensors onto our clients products.

* Detailed design
- Creation of CAD drawings (CATIA V5) for mechanical systems on new product developments (BS308 and internal stds.)
- Impact and requirements of aircraft systems to support products
   + Stress and fatigue loads, electro-mechanical interfaces and safety functions
- Specification of equipment and test specifications for compliance with airworthiness requirements
- Evaluation of non-conformances to design acceptance criteria

* Qualification and Manufacturing test equipment
- Control systems and electrical interfaces of test rigs
- Test equipment within manufacturing
   + From cable harness testers to LabView controlled DAQ systems

SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
* Min 1 full product life-cycle in mechanical engineering role (ideally in aerospace industry)
* Degree (2:1) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* Strong working knowledge of:
- GDandT principles
- Structural systems and engineering
- Hydraulic systems and engineering

* Experience with:
- Fatigue analysis, structural analysis, component sizing, FEA (structural and hydraulic), corrosion protection methods, metallisation processes, basic metallurgy knowledge and application to materials selection, forgings.
- NPD tools and methods: requirements engineering, stage-gate process, root-cause analysis, DfX methods, statistical analysis techniques (and Minitab)
- National and International aircraft design and testing standards
* Forward looking creative and innovative problem solver
* Good analytical skills
* Significant knowledge of technologies both inside and outside of primary field of operation
* Good communicator and presentation skills
* Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
