Chassis Brakes - Principal Engineer

Based on a very attractive University campus, this Centre of Excellence is building on its growing reputation for vehicle and powertrain development. It has plans to expand it operation and increase the number of talented Engineers and Specialists it employs, working on new projects incorporating cutting edge technologies. This growth has created an opportunity for a Brakes specialist to join the Chassis and Concepts team. This role based in Coventry also offers the opportunity to spend time working with colleagues at the parent company based in India. There is also the opportunity to work as an expatriate in India if this appeals. Location commutable from Birmingham, Warwick, Leicester, Gaydon, Milton Keynes, Northampton, may also interest candidates in the Crewe area.
Main activities and tasks will include:

  • Supporting chassis brakes projects from concept to production
  • Support all aspects of design, test and development from planning and preparation through integration too vehicle, execution of test and production implementation
  • Support the generation of system targets and the generation of test, development and design standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Generation and maintenance of system and component level FMEA`s
  • Support and liaise with suppliers and customers during project activities regardless of location
  • Support the development of virtual testing, simulation and analysis
  • Work on both passenger car (majority) and commercial vehicle systems
  • Lead research into advanced braking systems and its integration with regenerative braking on electric and hybrid vehicles
  • Define analysis tools and methods to be used in determining brake system requirements and performance
  • Research opportunities and benefits of combining foundation and regenerative braking systems
    Candidate core requirements:
  • Degree, HND, HNV qualified
  • Ideally Chartered or working towards it
  • A minimum of 5 years Automotive industry experience
  • Capable of managing a group of engineers
  • Able to demonstrate a depth of experience in vehicle braking systems
  • Demonstrate experience in vehicle braking system performance specification, testing, simulation and analysis
  • Experience in regenerative braking technologies would be an advantage
  • A good general knowledge of chassis systems and vehicle dynamics would be an advantage
  • General knowledge and understanding of control systems, vehicle electronics and vehicle networks / CAN systems would be an advantage
  • Experience in brakes performance and thermal modelling / analysis is desirable
  • Experience with MATLAB, Carmaker, ADAMS desirable
