Our client is a high precision, low volume, machining company with links to motor racing powertrain.  They currently have an urgent contract requirement for a Test Technician, up to end September 2012.

The successful individual must be able to develop tests without detailed instructions, so the need to interpret information is essential.

Based within the Engine Build department and reporting to the Build and Test Team Leader, the individual will be responsible for the following:

* Take a Test Request from its conception and work with Test Engineering and the Test Owner to ensure all targets are achieved.
* Process and report test results, including analysis and understanding.
* Present the data in a precise, consistent and readable manner.
* Develop a relationship with Engineering - communicate Test Request requirements and communicate test problems, delays and results
* Build and operate battery test rigs, including fluid conditioning system assembly and maintenance.
* Support off-site test set-up and operation
* Liaison with Engineering and Build dept to ensure efficient work flow
* Rig testing of final assemblies to ensure units meet performance requirements
* Adherence to and continuous improvement of our SOPs and QMS processes
* Completion of database to ensure all components and sub-assemblies are accurately tracked
* Constructive reporting of quality issues via the fault database
* Maintenance and continuous improvement of our clean build environment
* Flexibility in working hours to ensure builds are completed to meet test and delivery schedules
* Self organisation of requested tasks in order to complete these in a safe and efficient manner
* Maintenance of allocated equipment through basic TPM controls and early reporting of issues


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

* Engineering Apprenticeship / BTEC / HNC Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
* High degree of competence when working with electrical systems particularly building and testing
* Experience of working in a pressure/fast moving organisaion. A large proportion of work will be based on development testing with a production that is changed regularly.
* Ability to work to high levels of quality and cleanliness
* Test background with strong mechanical and good electrical knowledge.
* PC literacy including MS office products
* Excellent communication skills
* Highly organised with good attention to detail
* Ability to rigorously follow defined processes
* Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
* Ability to work long days when required with flexibility to meet company requirements. This may include supplier visits.
* Ability to work alone or as a member of a team

Desirable Attributes:

* Specialist tool / equipment / technique use
* Battery experience is desirable.
