Purpose:

To provide an instrument measurement service to ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratories which engage in both chemical and mechanical testing activities.

Key Accountabilities: 

• The measurement specialist calibrates, maintains, fault finds and installs a variety of precision measurement systems that monitor and control such parameters as torque, speed, temperature, pressure, flow, dimensional displacement and automotive engine emission. These systems are predominantly computer controlled. Developing a thorough understanding of all aspects of the above systems is an essential part of the role. 
• The Laboratories accreditations and testing activities demand that the performance all internal measurements/calibrations are traceable to National standards as laid down in ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.Measurement specialists are expected to have/or develop a thorough understanding of the sections of this standard relating to measurement/calibration activities, including terminology such as traceability, precision, accuracy, repeatability and measurement uncertainty. 
• The measurement specialist works closely with a variety of other technical and non technical disciplines to ensure the stringent testing requirements of the testing laboratories are achieved in a timely and cost effective manner. 
• Update and maintain the measurement system database and all other relevant documentation in particular those required by ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.

Required Expertise / Knowledge / Skills: 

• HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 
• Completed a recognised Apprenticeship with 3 years post apprenticeship industrial experience. 
• Detailed knowledge of a variety of measurement systems. 
• Have a basic understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO17025 relating to calibration and measurement. 
• An awareness of safety legislation and procedures and quality systems. 
• Ability to work both in a team and independently under general supervision
