Operations Director
Our client is an established specialist vehicle manufacturer that produces a range of heavy duty multi-purpose vehicles. This role will report into the General Manager and have full Operational responsibility for vehicle assembly, strategic stock holding and spares. The present facility is split between vehicle assembly (goods inwards, inspection and stores) and the spares facility which combines strategic stock. It is important that this spares facility and the items held within it are kept in good order as strict deadlines with regards stock availability and delivery must be adhered to.
The ideal candidate will have significant operational experience and must quickly establish confidence and credibility both internally within the Group and with external clients and partners.
Candidates must be self-starters, commercially aware with the intellectual capability to make difficult decisions, drive change and create a culture of sustainable improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to create a first class Assembly, Services and Spares operation. To be considered for the role candidates must have a proven track record of developing and managing a complex heavy vehicle assembly operation together with a real appreciation for modern manufacturing assembly techniques and stock control.
A good fit regarding industry experience could include medium to low volume vehicle assembly such as yellow goods or heavy truck assembly.
Job Purpose
To be responsible for the effective management of the vehicle assembly and spares operation and to deliver on time, on budget and to plan
The key responsibilities and accountabilities will be (but not limited to):
- To implement and control the production schedule and spares supply.
- To manage staff and material resources to meet production targets and spares supply targets.
- Monitor measure and report on operational performance and issues.
- To further establish and maintain systems for measuring all necessary aspects of operational management and development.
- Develop and build robust relationships with key stakeholders, customers and suppliers
- Develop and implement cost control programs.
- Ensure operational, Health, Safety and Environmental compliance is in line with group policy and relevant government legislative requirements.
- Analysis of production and quality control to identify and rectify recurrent issues
- Determine, identify and implement appropriate continuous improvement methodologies (visual management, 5S and good housekeeping) and identify any areas of cost reduction.
- Preparing and delivering performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Manage and identify development opportunities/areas for improvement for direct reports.
Candidates will be qualified to degree level within an Engineering or Business discipline with previous experience gained within a batch manufacturing environment where material delivery and customer satisfaction are key. The successful candidate will have a high level of self motivation, excellent people management skills and the ability to work with external customers. In addition a thorough understanding of supply chain management, logistics and aftermarket spares would be a big advantage.
