Commodity Leader (Indirect spend)

Job Purpose

As commodity leader, you will explore and develop supply chain design in a mix of broad Indirect spend, from IT & Facilities to Energy. As this is a business undergoing rapid expansion, you will be tasked with taking control of indirect spend and you will also have expertise in commodities ensuring keen management of cost, quality, continuity of supply and overall supplier management.

The role will also be expected to provide critical inputs to the development of business and customer strategies and must ensure that Commodity Strategies adapt and influence as this rapidly growing business matures in the market.

Key Accountabilities

-          Develop and implement specific procurement strategies for each project and spend category. Ensure that supplier capacities and capabilities meet the changing needs of the business. Guarantee continuity of supply ensuring that supply chain risks are identified and mitigated.

-          Negotiate lowest total cost. Seek opportunities to leverage spend and volume to mitigate cost pressures. Understand what drives cost and own pricing models commensurate with business strategies and commitments.

-          Manage suppliers’ performance. Measure and report on performance and continuously assess and reassess the strategic fit of the supplier/commodity in line with the business need. Where necessary, expedite delivery ensuring a constant vigilance on quality and cost.

-          Work closely with business teams and peers to ensure low risk cost solutions from the suppliers. Ensure that warranty terms are flowed through the supply chain and that company processes are capable of redeeming the full value should that be required

-          Solid legal understanding. Ability to develop and construct a range of supplier contract and service level agreements.

Qualifications

-          Ideally educated to Degree level in related field.

-          Membership of CIPS by exam to a minimum of level 3, with commitment to becoming MCIPS.

Skills and Experience

-          Procurement professional. 

-          Broad indirect spend management

-          Development of strategic supplier relationships.

-          Proven record of managing multiple projects.

-          Understanding of supplier quality an advantage.

-          Experience in undertaking supplier assessments.

-          Proven record of improving existing and introducing methods and processes

-          Sound knowledge of finance including total cost of acquisition.

-          Proven experience of cost reduction and ability to monitor and analyse product cost.
