DESCRIPTION:
Based on a very attractive University campus, this Technical Centre was established in 2005  bringing together the best of European talent and expertise  in whole vehicle development . Employing 250 Engineers and Specialists it is now regarded as an engineering centre of excellence.  Over £85 million has been invested in the Centre since its foundation with plans for further with headcount growing to 350 this year and into next. Engaged in conventional IC engine, hybrid and electric powered vehicle development, the Centre is located in Coventry, commutable from Birmingham, Leicester, Warwick, Milton Keynes, Northampton.  A very exciting opportunity has now been created for a Electric Vehicle Battery Pack Design & Process Development Engineer with a background in design, material and manufacturing process development to join the team.

VAC REQ:
Battery technology R&D is a fundamental activity at the Centre and it is being supported by the building  of a  brand  laboratory for the purpose. This has created an opportunity for a talented Engineer with a strong background in design, material and manufacturing process development to join the team. This role will be the focal point for the development of materials and joining technologies enabling the automated manufacture of battery cell packs to be used in Electric and Hybrid vehicles. Working with colleagues in Product Development the job will develop materials and methodologies adopting a 6 sigma approach to produce reliable and cost effective hardware solutions. Specific aspects will involve:
• Development of conceptual designs for cell packaging, interconnection and thermal management solutions.
• Materials and process selection for optimum cost, weight and performance.
• Detailed materials and failure mode investigations using appropriate analytical techniques such as SEM and EDAX.
• Production of prototype battery modules.
• Evaluation of prototype hardware and sub-components using appropriate testing processes.
• Working in close collaboration with wider team responsible for overall battery pack and vehicle integration.
• Preparation of detailed technical reports / presentations.
• Presentation of reports to peer groups and management at technical reviews.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates will need to be Degree or similarly qualified in Metallurgy, Chemistry or an appropriate Engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience in an automotive, aerospace or avionics process development and product design environment. A "hands-on" Engineer with practical technical skills is sought, someone possessing good inter-personal skills with the ability to work and contribute within a multi-disciplinary design team. Must have good logical reasoning and task planning ability and good analytical skills, a background that includes 6 Sigma is desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills will also be needed.
