The department is responsible for integrating new technologies, materials and manufacturing processes into the body manufacturing business. The technologies will be related to the forming and joining of body components with particular attention to aluminum and ultra high strength steel. The jobholder will be able to identify, investigate and evaluate forming and/or joining technologies from both a business and technical perspective. This will include leading investigations to establish process window and stability characteristics and then documenting learning for Manufacturing and Process engineers to utilise in technology implementation. The specific tasks will be Working with Product Development and Manufacturing Engineering in the very early stages of vehicle programs to identify appropriate new technology opportunities. Identifying and assessing the area of applicability and then business benefits and risks associated with the implementation of new processes and materials. Working with wider PAG and Ford global research groups to gather information. Using knowledge of new techniques and refinements to develop improvements in reliability, repeatability and cost of existing body manufacturing processes. Planning transition of new technologies from initial identification through Process Window and Stability stage trials, to the delivery of usage guidelines. Managing and contributing to University based investigations of forming and/or joining technologies. Creating standards and guidelines that will lead to a new technology becoming a core competence for the client.
Manufacturing Engineering. Identify opportunities and implementation of solutions for continuous process and quality improvements. Contribute towards achievement of Manufacturing Engineering business targets
Skills Required:
Knowledge of stamping and / or body assembly processes and equipment, although equally important is the individual"s ability to identify all the business and technical issues related to a new technology. Knowledge of project planning and management techniques. Good PC literacy including limited Web Authoring skills.
Experience Required:
Experience in working in a process focussed volume manufacturing industry and a demonstrable track record of developing manufacturing processes into stable volume production. Excellent written and interpersonal skills. Able to fully participate as a team member. Capable communicator.
Experience Preferred:
Some knowledge of 6 Sigma statistical and DoE tools would be helpful. Knowledge of Cost modelling also helpful.
Education Required:
Minimum HNC/HND.
Education Preferred:
Engineering Degree, preferred but not essential
