Process Development Principal Engineer

A great opportunity exists for a talented, hands-on Process Development Engineer to join this Centre of Excellence for the development of Electric, Hybrid and conventionally powered passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Based on a very attractive university campus, the Centre employs over 250 Engineers and enjoys the support and continuous investment of its parent company enabling it to grow and further develop its expertise across all areas of vehicle engineering. To support its activities the new role of Process Development Principal Engineer has been created.

Located in Coventry the centre is commutable from Oxford, Birmingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Leamington Spa.

The Centre is actively engaged in the development of lithium-ion battery modules for use in electric and hybrid vehicles. Aspects of the work are being undertaken in conjunction with partner groups within the automotive industry and academia using state of the art facilities on site at the Centre. The successful candidate will be involved in battery module design and development programmes targeted at producing reliable and cost effective hardware solutions. Specific aspects will involve:
- Support the development of conceptual designs for cell packaging, interconnection and thermal management of battery module assemblies.
- Support the materials and process selection for optimum cost, weight and performance.
- Conduct detailed materials failure mode investigations using appropriate analytical techniques such as SEM and EDAX.
- Take responsibility for the production of prototype battery modules.
- Evaluate prototype hardware and sub-components using appropriate testing processes.
- Work in close collaboration with the wider team responsible for overall battery pack and vehicle integration.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for Senior Management.
- Presentation of reports to peer groups and management at technical reviews.
- Occasional overseas travel.

Candidate ideal core requirements are:
- A first Degree or similar qualification in Metallurgy, Chemistry or appropriate engineering discipline.
- Have spent a significant period in the automotive industry working in process development.
- Possess good analytical skills, 6 Sigma trained is highly desirable.
- Practical, hands-on technical skills.
- Strong numeracy and literacy.
- Good logical reasoning.
- Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
