Functional Safety Principal Engineer - Coventry - Great Salary
Ongoing investment in the development of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles has created a new position for a Functional Safety Engineer with a strong background in ISO 26262 or IEC 61508. Applications are encouraged from Engineers either currently acting at Principal level or seeking a career promotion opportunity. Sponsored by India's most successful auto manufacturer, this centre of excellence for whole vehicle development has enjoyed significant investment since it was established in 2005.
The main activities and tasks for this job are:
- To lead the implementation of ISO 26262 safety case for advanced engineering projects in the UK and migrate the process to the parent company in India.
- Support process improvements both in the UK and India.
- Support requirements management and system specification / definition both in the UK and in India.
- Derive processes for managing supplier delivery of complex hardware and software systems, including participation in supplier design reviews.
- Develop and refine engineering processes in the UK and India.
- Regular travel to India, up one week per month will be required.
- Be an effective team member contributing to improvements and high customer service.
Candidate requirements:
- Understanding and appreciation of vehicle safety case definition based around ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or equivalent.
- Understanding and appreciation of automotive system design processes, including requirement management, system partitioning and requirement apportioning utilising a tool such as DOORS.
- Degree or similar qualification
- A minimum of 5 years' experience ideally in the automotive industry. Candidates from the Aerospace, Defence, Avionics industries are also encouraged to apply.
- Be conversant with automotive hardware and software design processes.
- Understanding and appreciation of vehicle networking particularly CAN.
- Extensive experience of development and validation of automotive ECUs. Hybrid or EV experience is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer, working toward or prepared to work toward
- The ability to overcome cultural barriers
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates will need to be Degree, HND or HNC qualified and be able to demonstrate strong numeracy and literacy skills and have experience in vehicle cooling, engine cooling, engine development, vehicle test or development or sub-system (fan / radiator) development. Although pitched at Principal Engineer level, applications from more junior Engineers with relevant experience seeking a career development opportunity are also welcome.
