Mechanical Design Engineer

My client is a leading clean power systems company. Their proprietary clean fuel and clean power technologies provide solutions to the difficult environmental and energy supply challenges being faced by governments and industry.
They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will apply their engineering skills in mechanical and thermo-fluid design of modular stacks and systems.
Other Key accountabilities include:
- Use a degree of innovation and technical judgement to interpret programme manager requirements and devise appropriate solutions for novel and complex problems.
- Acknowledge resource requirements, risk and technical quality to ensure delivery of effective solutions to problems.
- Operate change management during engineering drawing updates, to ensure configuration control is maintained, and best practice/lessons learned are shared effectively amongst peers.
- Provide feedback to line manager and peers on appropriate software, analytical and IT tools for the job and recognise possible training requirements.
- Work with programme managers to deliver acceptable designs and solutions.
- Understand any standard tests and acceptance criteria for stacks, systems and key components relevant to the design, to ensure effective programme delivery.
- Recognise outside resources, such as design sub-contractors, and notify line / programme manager where supplementary capacity and skills may be required.
- Understand the requirements and impact of relevant National, European and International standards on stack and system design.
- Apply safe design of products and systems, with particular interest in hydrogen safety, pressure and machine safety.
- Aid in the timing and scheduling of new programs with the Mechanical Design manager.
- Support RandT in the application of blue-sky concepts in end-user systems. Qualifications
- Essential: Degree level qualification in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. Non-degree qualifications suffice with relevant industrial experience of more than 7 years.
- Desirable: A relevant postgraduate qualification or additional relevant work experience of 3 years.
Essential experience: - 3D CAD software use and proficient drafting of engineering drawings (ideally Solidworks)
- Excellent knowlege of mechanical engineering and design of systems relevant to fuel cells
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes for prototyping and concept development
- Interdisciplinary teamworking - Finding and building relationships with potential suppliers
- Application of appropriate calculation methods for mechanical design
- Presentation of design solutions using appropriate media
Essential skills: - Computer literate
- Proficient at Microsoft Office
- Work with cross-discipline teams
- Fully understand and draft an engineering drawing
- Fully understand and draft PandI schematics for fluid mechanical systems
- Use a 3D parametric CAD package proficiently
- Check and sign-off engineering drawings
