My client is a leading clean power systems company. Their proprietary clean fuel and clean power technologies provide solutions to the difficult environmental and energy supply challenges being faced by governments and industry.

They are looking to appoint an additional Senior Mechanical Design Engineerwho will apply their acquired engineering skills in mechanical design engineering for the development of modular stacks and systems. Key accountabilities

• Using a high degree of innovation and technical judgement to interpret programme manager and customer requirements and devise appropriate solutions for novel and complex problems.
• Understand resource requirements, risk and technical quality to ensure delivery of effective solutions to problems.
• Operate change management during engineering drawing updates, to ensure that configuration control is maintained, and best practice/lessons learned are shared amongst peers.
• Provide feedback to line manager and peers on appropriate software, analytical and IT tools for the job and recognise possible training requirements.
• Understand any standard tests and acceptance criteria relevant to the design, to ensure effective programme / customer delivery.
• Recognise outside resources, such as design sub-contractors, and notify line / programme manager where supplementary capacity and skills may be required.
• Understand the requirements and impact of relevant National, European and International standards on design.
• Apply safe design of products and systems, with particular interest in hydrogen safety, pressure and machine safety.
• Aid in the timing and scheduling of new programs with the Mechanical Design manager / PMO / Director of Engineering.
• Be able to act as responsible lead of function in absense of group manager and any higher ranked group peer, in event of their unforeseen absence, or holiday with appropriate notification period.
  
  Essential: Degree level qualification in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, supplemented with postgraduate engineering qualification OR relevant industrial experience. Non-degree qualifications suffice with extensive industrial experience.
  Experience
  Essential experience:
• 3D CAD software (Solidworks) use and proficient drafting of engineering drawings
• Excellent knowlege of mechanical engineering and design of systems
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes for prototyping and concept development
• Application of standards, codes and regulations to design
• Interdisciplinary teamworking
• Building relationships with potential suppliers
• Application of appropriate calculation methods for mechanical design
• Presentation of design solutions using appropriate media
  Essential skills:
• Computer literate - Proficient at Microsoft Office
• Work with cross-discipline teams
• Fully understand and draft an engineering drawing
• Fully understand and draft PandI schematics for fluid mechanical systems
• Check and sign-off engineering drawings
• Apply thermal and fluid knowledge to the design of relevant components
