Dimensional Management Principal Engineer

Based on a very attractive University campus, this Centre of Excellence is building on its growing reputation for vehicle and powertrain development. It has plans to expand it operation and increase the number of talented Engineers and Specialists it employs, working on new projects incorporating cutting edge technologies. This growth has created an opportunity for a Dimensional Management Principal Engineer to support its Craftsmanship function. This role based in Coventry also offers the opportunity to spend time working with colleagues at the parent company based in India. Location commutable from Birmingham, Warwick, Leicester, Gaydon, Milton Keynes, Northampton, may interest candidates from Oxford, Crewe areas.
Main tasks and activities will include the following:

• Carry out 3D tolerance analysis utilising Vis VSA
• Develop coordinated PLP, GDandT and process direction toward meeting the dimensional targets and functional objectives.
• Introduce best practice DM activities into new vehicle programmes
• Lead dimensional improvements on vehicle geometry through part, tooling or design actions in responsible systems
• Assure all PLP`s are coordinated between supplier, assembly equipment and gauging
• Establish measurement plans
• Maintain matrix of all dimensional issues in respective area and drive root cause and problem
• Perform data management, root cause analysis and comprehensive reporting
• Provide technical support for delivering and commissioning of checking fixtures (single parts and combined fixturing)
• Assist stamping and supplier engineering activities with Part buyoff and prioritization matrices for part improvements and final buyoff all subsystem parts on gauges through, Part Qualification and Blue Buck evaluations.
• Depending upon project demands, it may be necessary to spend up to one week in four in India.
  Candidate requirements:
• Ideally Degree qualified, will consider HND, HNC
• Vis VSA trained and proficient in GDandT
• Catia v5 CAD skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of statistics and SPC techniques
• Experience of BIW tooling and assembly
• Minimum of 3 years Automotive industry experience
• Must be willing to travel to travel to launch locations and review new model progress, providing leadership for team members where necessary
• Good knowledge of general engineering fundamentals
• Be familiar with the vehicle product development process, supplier quality management, manufacturing process and the Pilot process in a production environment
• Experience with sheet metal stamping / assembly quality, inspection and processing
• Familiar with appropriate metrology equipment for root cause diagnostics (Scanning, CMM, Leica, Perception, Blue Buck, component gauges)
• Dimensional control, manufacturing process engineering, plant quality control, body engineering, body shop production and sheet metal product launch
• Knowledge of gauges and inspection techniques
• Experience solving dimensional issues, wind noise, water leak, squeak and rattle
