Mechanical Package Principal Engineer

Based on a very attractive University campus, this Centre of Excellence is building on its growing reputation for vehicle and powertrain development. It has plans to expand its operation and increase the number of talented Engineers and Specialists it employs, working on new projects incorporating cutting edge technologies. This growth has created an opportunity for a Mechanical Package specialist to join the Vehicle Package and Concepts team. This role is based in Coventry and there may be some occasional overseas travel required. Location commutable from Birmingham, Warwick, Leicester, Gaydon, Milton Keynes, Northampton, may also interest candidates in the Crewe area.
This is a Principal Engineer graded management role, the main activities and tasks will include:

• Identification of under-bonnet and under-body mechanical package issues through physical vehicle and DMU review
• Development of initial proposals for part design changes, clipping enhancements, protection requirements to resolve issues identified
• Co-ordination and leadership of cross-functional teams to confirm optimal solutions for issues
• Production of CAD layouts showing proposed changes and successful integration into vehicle DMU
• Support the build of physical demonstrator vehicle based on existing cars to demonstrate proposed changes
• Specification and initiation of appropriate test and verification methods to achieve robust engineering sign off of changes
• Tracking of issues from identification through to implementation of solution and engineering sign off
• Reporting of issues status as required, including management reviews
  Candidate requirements and essential experience:
• Degree, HND or HNC qualified with a minimum of 5 years experience of under-bonnet package design
• A good awareness of key design factors in the development of robust flexible component routings
• Have an understanding of the development and usage of dynamic engine roll models
• A firm understanding of mechanical package integrity assurance; modelling, test, engineering sign off and product launch
• A firm understanding of design for serviceability and manufacture
• Proficiency in the use of Catia V5 or Pro-E
• working in and leading cross functional teams
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Vismockup or similar DMU package
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
• Experience in the use of Teamcentre would be useful
