Position Summary:

A ‘Fixed Term’ Advisor is sought to provide support for all Health and Safety activities required to be conducted to assist the company in the attainment of the OHSAS18001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard and the implementation of best practice safety initiatives.

The position will require effort across a range of activities as listed below, although this shall not be exhaustive and may require additional duties from time-to-time.

Outline of functions

  • Conducting general risk assessments throughout the company to identify improvement activities and training needs. Feedback of findings to departmental / area managers.
  • Completion of specific Work Related Upper Limb Disorder (WRULD) and Manual Handling assessments in order to identify medium / long term company targets for risk reduction.
  • Conduct Associate training for a range of OH&S issues in order to proactively encourage accident and incident reduction ratios, i.e. COSHH, DSEAR, Emergency Planning, Confined Entry, Workplace transport, HAV etc.
  • Maintaining and improving current contractor database to ensure compliance with safety standards and obtaining PL and EL insurance documentation.
  • Conduct workplace audits and report findings of non-compliance to production and senior management making recommendations for improvement as necessary.
  • Undertake ‘testing’ of specific emergency planning arrangements and analysis of findings to identify improvements to system and operational performance.
  • Assist with the compilation and implementation of HSE procedures, policies and other documentation to ensure the effective maintenance and improvement OHS&E Management system in relation to the ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 standards.
  • Co-ordinate the availability of persons and facilities to ensure managers, supervisors and employees attend and complete identified H&S training plans in order to improve company performance as necessary.
  • Undertake the implementation of specific projects including sourcing of materials, development of documentation and presentation of training to enable risk reduction and control across the breadth of the organisation.
  • Conducting any other reasonable request made by line manager to support departmental or company objective.

Knowledge

Attitude

NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (preferred).

Ability to work on own initiative and recognise priorities.

Demonstrable level of knowledge and experience in industry – (automotive preferred).

Flexible in terms of their approach to working hours.

Basic knowledge and understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practices.

Demonstrate characteristics of team-work, attitude and personality that would enhance current team moral and performance.

Knowledge of specialist or specific H&S topics may be advantageous but not vital.
