CAN LIN Quality Engineer

£30.20 - 30.20 per hour
The quality team's job is to identify, define and fix problems affecting our customers and dealers, and improve quality at each model year by ensuring that similar issues do not occur in future designs. Of these the integration team specialises in issues caused by:
- Interaction between multiple components over data links especially CAN and LIN e.g. security system/immobiliser warning lamps/messages short range sensing systems - ultrasonics/cameras/radar.
- Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) flagging when no repair is required failing to flag when a repair is required not leading the dealer to the correct repair. - Dealer diagnostic equipment failing to lead the dealer to the correct repair failing to correctly complete service operations such as reflash.
We do this job by:
- Analysing field quality data including: Warranty claims Data read from vehicles in dealers (DTCs, Parameter identifiers) Customer surveys (e.g JD Power) OEM roadside assistance incidents Dealer reports (product quality reports, technical assistance requests) Internal vehicle failure reports Manufacturing test reports
- Identifying projects to change the design or diagnostic procedures based on patterns of similar failure modes in that data
- Progressing these projects with product engineering teams and suppliers using 8D and 6 sigma approaches.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of the fixes using the field data.
Skills Required:
Detailed understanding of two or more areas of automotive electronic systems: body, chassis, infotainment, Powertrain, comfort, hybrids etc. Ability to plan and deliver project work accurately under pressure. Excellent IT skills including crucially analysing data using Excel.
Skills Preferred:
Note: candidates lacking any of the following will only be considered if they show very strong evidence of the required skills above. Detailed knowledge of automotive communication Networks in automotive environment. Detailed knowledge of automotive Diagnostics Structured problem solving, 6 sigma/ 8D.
Experience Required:
Several years working with automotive electronic systems in either a design/development or quality role.
Experience Preferred:
Detailed understanding of automotive communication Networks in automotive environment Working with Automotive Diagnostics Working with Automotive communication networks.
Education Required:
Degree or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering.
Additional Information:
Position will be based at Gaydon, but candidate will be required to travel to other OEM sites - Whitley, Castle Bromwich, Solihull, Halewood and should have an appropriately insured vehicle (expenses will be reimbursed).
