A world leader in the innovation, design and manufacture of Diesel Fuel Injection equipment are now looking for a Lead Engineer to work on a permanent basis based at their site in Kent.
As the Lead Engineer you will be responsible for a team of Engineers in the 'Core Engineering' team. The Core team is responsible for defining the engineering content of four families of Common Rail Diesel Fuel pumps (DFP1, DFP3, DFP4 and DFP6).
This position will be responsible for the 'Drive Trains' of all DFP products and as such will ensure synergies and commonalities between pump families will be applied, whilst functional performance, design to cost and manufacturability and quality will be achieved.
The person will direct and approve any changes to the baseline (current) pump Drive train (Bearings, Drive shafts, Tappets or Shoes etc.) related components ensuring that the product teams maintain common processes and practices across the different applications while meeting the company's excellence target (low IPTV, high FTQ and 'quick to market'). As well this person will drive the future drive trains.
The applicant will have good technical knowledge and experience of a similar product that has been put into production. The applicant must also have a good understanding of managing a team to meet priority, cost and timing targets. Applicant must be willing to travel for training, and/or work at the company's and suppliers' plants abroad.

Diesel Common Rail Fuel Pumps and possible other pump related components as required.
Manage a team of engineers to ensure that clear targets are defined and tracked.
Direct the team to meet task timing using a systematic and logical Engineering approach.
Interact with critical suppliers to understand key processes and assess and approve changes to these processes as required.
Ensure that Engineering tasks are carried out to give a satisfactory level of confidence and consistency and that the results are suitably reported.
Develop/present presentations to senior management addressing the progress of key tasks.
Use failure rate analysis and statistics (e.g. Weibull) to assess risk of in-field failure.
Apply ICIM methods using DOE, 6 Sigma, Shainin and other statistical tools to achieve product robustness. (Training will be provided to fill current gaps in experience level.)

A degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent in Physics etc. Solid experience in a leadership/management role.
Personal strengths should include: Confidence, self-directed, goal oriented, with strong team interaction skills that facilitate cross-functional involvement. DOE and statistical analysis knowledge. Must be able to constructively deal with conflict situations. Ability to develop and present technical presentations.

Must be willing to travel for training or work with plants and suppliers abroad as necessary.
