Our client is an internationally successful defence, security, transport and energy company with a long, consistent track record of development and growth.
Based from their site in Cheltenham and focusing on providing advanced electronic, electromechanical and mechanical solutions for modern vehicle requirements, they are looking for an enthusiastic Bid Support Engineer to work with both design engineering and business development teams.
Ideally, they require an experienced Design Engineer with recent exposure to proposal/bid writing in a commercial environment. Understanding of systems engineering approach, EMC and PCB layout is required in order to liaise with design teams from a commercial perspective.

Key responsibilities
- Assist in the development of existing and new markets, and new applications of the Company's technology
- Develop the bid strategy and manage the bid process, the preparation of proposals and quotations in response to customers' requirements
- Develop and run customer demonstrations that focus on user benefits
- Conduct internal and customer training programmes including course development and delivery
- Maintain and build relationships with a range of contacts including government procurement agencies, prime contractors and distributors to position the Company's products for future requirements
- Working closely with the Company's engineers in the technical assessment of new business opportunities, influencing the direction of new product research and development following analysis of market place
- Provide technical and cost data to Sales and Marketing Managers during bid preparation
- Provide data for customer review and conduct presentations as required
- Understanding the needs of all project stakeholders and actively managing their expectations to ensure successful project delivery
- Preparation of technical proposals including estimations and presentations
- Contribute to the continuous development of systems and business processes

Essential Skills
- Understanding of EMC and PCB layout and have a knowledge of IP management
- Understanding of requirements capture, ideally DOORS, and analysis
- Shipley Proposal Management trained
- Experience of safety critical systems and design processes
- Understanding of a systems engineering approach
- Knowledge of component selection and circuit design to interface processors/microcontrollers to digital networks, digital and analogue signals
- Experience of full life cycle design
- Understanding of product verification plans and procedures to allow detailed integration and verification activities

Personal attributes
- Pro-active and self motivated with wide-ranging problem solving experience
- Comfortable working independently or within a team, with the ability to identify the needs of a project or task, taking the initiative where appropriate to undertake the necessary work
- Ability to effectively communicate either verbally or written within a multi discipline team, with internal company authorities or customers
- Confidence to capture, develop and translate customer requirements into manageable sub-system and product requirements.
