Our client is one of the world`s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. Established for more than 60 years its product line-up has, more recently, moved into the design and manufacture of passenger cars, including electric vehicles.

A new contract opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer for Vehicle Package Support. The individual will work within a project team to lead the Occupant package element from early concept through to production, as well as co-ordinate and lead cross-functional teams, to confirm optimal solutions for issues.

**NB. The individual will be required to spend extensive time out in India on project (likely to be 6 weeks in every 7) **

Responsibilities will include:

- Provide single point of contact for Vehicle Package work being carried out.
- Set up of concept seating package layout based on target data from
benchmarking activities and high level ergonomic requirements.
- Ensure robust interface between Occupant and Mechanical Package activities.
- Expert ergonomics support and analysis where required e.g. postural analysis.
- Development of Styling restriction model based on target dimensions i.e. creation of zones defining boundaries for required headroom, shoulder room, knee clearance, luggage space etc.
- Creation of zones illustrating Package legal requirements e.g. vision zone.
- Work with Styling function to resolve any conflicts between Package requirements and Styling theme, including support for any trade-off decisions prior to Styling freeze.
- Work with component design areas to resolve any conflicts between Package requirements and component feasibility.
- Development of proposals for part design changes, enhancements etc to resolve issues identified.
- Reporting of issues status as required, including management reviews.
- Ensure Package properties accurately reflect design intent of Styling theme.


Essential Requirements:

- Minimum of 5 years experience of working in Occupant Package or a closely related function at a major vehicle OEM.
- Degree qualified or similar qualification.
- Working in and leading cross functional teams.
- Understands differing customer and legislative requirements between markets.
- Sound understanding and hands on experience in the development and production of Package layouts.
- Has a sound understanding of ergonomics in vehicle design and awareness of human machine interface requirements including development tools e.g Ramsis.
- Understanding of body feasibility requirements including master section development.
- Develop target setting processes and methods (e.g. platform target book, keep out zones, buck etc).
- Working with Styling functions to deliver Package concepts.
- Good communication/interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in CatiaV5 and Vismockup.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.


Preferred Experience:

- Experience in the use of Teamcenter.
- Experience in working with GPDS and Virtual series process.
- Has experience in the production of Occupant Package properties.
