Our client is recognised as a leading manufacturer of industrial diesel engines. Reporting to the Logistics Engineering Team Leader, the Packaging Engineer develops the packaging plan and works with key groups to ensure material is presented to the line properly. This position designs and develops standard work to improve packaging and containerisation of materials from the source of supply to the point of use.

You will work closely with Suppliers and Customers on all quality and safety issues, as well as supporting Continuous Improvement programmes to ensure that the company are delivering the safest and best cost solutions. This role focuses on the development of new component and product packaging for a particular introduction (Interim and Final).

You will provide NPI support, develop packaging solutions to protect finished/painted components from supplier to Point of Use, be responsible for design for transport efficiency, perform containerisation analysis and quoting, validate new packaging and containers during pilot phases, co-ordinate with assembly planning for line-side storage and ergonomic considerations, develop kitting packaging/presentation, validate returnable quantities, resolve safety and/or quality issues caused by current packaging and resolve issues reported by 3PL or carriers.

You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, exceptional organisation skills, an awareness of the need to involve and engage stakeholders in the Supply Chain output, the ability to agree and work to deadlines and the ability to manage a varied workload. It is also essential you have knowledge of Logistics processes, intermediate PC skills, a background in Manufacturing, Operations, Inventory Management, Material Requirements and/or Supply Chain/Logistics.
