Based at our clients major manufacturing facility and the lead plant for worldwide sales of high horsepower engines, supplying international markets in the electricity generating, mining, marine and locomotive sectors.

Due to growth plans they are now looking for a Principal Design Engineerr and as such we welcome applications who meet the criteria below:

In this role you are responsible to provide design leadership for Warranty Reduction, Product Tailoring, Product Introduction/Improvement and Cost Reduction

• Responsible for Layout and Design of new systems and components using Pro/Engineer CAD Software through to detail drawings to meet to Cummins` Practices and Procedures and to appropriate design standards within the Product Definition and Data Management environment.
• Supporting Engineering Standard Work practices, Drawing Reviews, Classification of Characteristics, Testing, Production support, Field Test Support and Warranty Reduction.
• Planning and leading projects, design responsibility on cross-functional teams (including Development, Analysis, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchase, Procurement etc.) responsible for design of engine sub-systems and components.
• Leading Design Reviews, FMEAs, analysis of systems, supplier discussions, project planning, preparation of reports, presentation of work and leading of meetings using teleconference and web based conferencing facilities internally and externally.

  Background Experience

• Pro/Engineer CAD software expertise
• Extensive knowledge and experience of compression and spark ignition engines, engine system and component level design
• Ability to create design concepts from first principles / clean sheet, through to detail drawings with supporting documentation
• Extensive machining / manufacturing process knowledge
• Design Analysis, Load/stress calculation
• Leadership of others and collaborative working within cross-functional teams to meet targets and deadlines
• Technical responsibility and direction for engine or sub-system architecture
