The Powertrain Operations Team of a leading OEM require a Tooling Engineer to work within their Manufacturing Engineering Group based in Essex..


The tooling section is an intrinsic part of the
Production Engineering department in PTO ME supporting Engine Plants globally and consequently regular travel is an essential part of this position.

The successful Tooling Engineer will:

The prime focus will be supporting Tooling team activities on the planning,
commissioning and launch of new engine programs

Plan, specify, develop, procure and implement the cutting and abrasive perishable
and durable programme tooling and the associated safe equipment to facilitate tool
management.

Tooling installation, commissioning and production launch at customer plants
worldwide.

Perform tooling program estimates for tool floats and presetting equipment

Introduce robust new tooling technologies into our manufacturing processes.

Implement standardised tooling strategies within Global PTO ME.

Manage resolution of manufacturing feasibility of product designs and manufacturing
processes supported with robust tooling solutions.

Drive continuous improvements in tooling investment efficiency and tooling cost per
unit reduction within engine programs.

Manage the approval of tooling applications to support program delivery schedules
including control plans, tool layouts and tool drawings.

Support simultaneous engineering teams to drive cost reductions and continuous
improvement and flexibility in manufacturing tools and processes.

Conduct ergonomic analysis of tool setting equipment and support productivity and
simulation requirements.


The successful Tooling Engineer will hold either an engineering related degree or have completed a minimum one-third of formal study towards an engineering related degree.

Must be able to demonstrate effective use of ONE Ford behaviours and have a good understanding of metal cutting, tool development, machining processes,
simultaneous engineering and prototype manufacturing techniques is essential.
