We seek a Development Engineer for an initial 12 month contract based in Peterborough.

THE COMPANY:

Perkins Engines is part of the UK Caterpillar Group located in Peterborough. They are the leading supplier of off-highway diesel and gas engines for the agricultural, material handling, general industrial and construction sectors.

THE ROLE:

This position is part of a team of engineers responsible for the performance and emissions development of Perkins Diesel engine products. The engines are used in machine, industrial and electric power applications.
The main responsibilities include engine performance and ratings development work. This position will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating engine development work, including pre-test planning, reviewing test data to ensure quality, and post-test data analysis. A key role will be the development of electronic engine calibration maps that will be utilized in the engine control software. Incumbent will be responsible for conducting engine system simulation and for selecting hardware for the engine to meet customers performance expectations and all emission regulations.
The role of the Manufacturing Engineer involves supporting the NPI team to:
Plan and coordinate the procurement, installation and capability of new manufacturing facilities, controls and related equipment, ensuring latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations.
Be directly involved in the resolution of quality defects, utilising root cause analysis, 8D and other 6 Sigma tools as necessary.

THE PERSON:

Requires an accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience.
Excellent analytical skills.
Experience in engine performance and emissions development.
Specific experience with the development of electronically controlled engines is highly desired.
Must have strong technical skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively.
Experience with diesel Engines not essential but desirable.
Experience within a quality engineering capacity.
Knowledge of Mechanical fuel injections.
