Mechanical Design Engineer

As part of its strategy of developing solutions to reduce CO2 emissions Valeo has recently acquired the Electric Supercharger business of a British automotive technology development company.
With this move, Valeo becomes the first automotive supplier to offer its customers a range of electric superchargers. Unlike exhaust-driven turbochargers, electric superchargers are driven by an electric motor. Lastly, when coupled with a Valeo energy recovery system, electric superchargers can be used to create a cost-competitive micro-hybrid solution that can deliver fuel savings of up to 20% in the standard European driving cycle.
They require a Mechanical Design Engineer , as part of the R and D Department, with a demonstrable ability in the following:
- Experience in developing products from concept to production in an automotive environment,
- Problem solving techniques and methodical approaches to same Operating within high volume manufacturing environment,
- Design to cost,
- Developing project plans and working within agreed plans and timelines,
- Tooling and moulding experience - ability to identify and suggest part improvements,
- Experience in using 3D CAD - Catia V5 R16 onwards,
- Packaging investigations and concept evaluation,
- Tolerance investigations and stack up analysis,
- Detailed Drawings and Drawing Control inc. GD+T,
- Supplier and customer interfacing,
- Vehicle/Product verification organising, analysis and report writing,
- Broad experience in injection moulding, metal casting, metal forming, adhesives and production -manufacturing methods is a necessity.
Candidates will ideally be degree qualified with recent relevant industrial experience together with . working to a structured product development methodology in the Automotive (or similar) sector.
