Buyer/Cost Engineer

Our client has been established as a specialist in the global automotive industry, both as a successful manufacturer of cars and is a leading engineering consultancy for vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.
The purpose of the Buyer/Cost Engineer is to support all new product and new part introduction programmes, ensuring that they are implemented on time and achieve cost, quality and company defined business requirements. You will assist in developing the company supplier base and co-ordinate with the Purchase Department and Project Teams to achieve optimum costs for company products.
You will co-ordinate, support and influence the design, development, manufacture and introduction of components, lead/facilitate purchase and cross functional teams to achieve the company project development system-cost management deliverables and also establish product and component cost targets from total value through to system level and price part level.
You must have a minimum ONC/HNC STD or recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical/Production Engineering together with a minimum of three years experience within a production engineering/manufacturing engineering environment. You must also have product cost management and process planning experience. Purchasing, procurement and knowledge of automotive cost engineering practices are highly desirable including Kaizen, Poke-Yoke, Kanban and Value analysis/value engineering cost modelling. You must be able to develop, implement and track project cost management and also be able to influence design of new/current products and understand technical needs of clients and suppliers.
