Reporting to the Dept Manager, Fluids Engineering the main purpose of the job is to be the central engineering lead in highly varied vehicle thermal management project activities.

Key functions of the job will include.

  • Working in the Fluids Department thermal engineering team, conducting confidential customer project work in the general fields of climate control, powertrain cooling. and underbonnet thermal management
  • Conducting and overseeing test and development work at component, sub-system and whole-vehicle levels in the Thermofluids Laboratory and Climatic Wind Tunnels, and possibly in-territory . This could include work on passenger car, commercial vehicle, off road and military projects, and may also involve application of 1D simulation techniques.
  • Working to strict timescale and budget constraints including close interaction with customer engineers and managers.
  • Providing engineering direction and consultancy, including design recommendations, and also providing aero-thermal input to wider MIRA vehicle engineering programmes.
  • Data analysis and preparing technical reports.
    Candidate requirements.
  • A good Degree, minimum 2.1
  • Typically a minimum 5 years in automotive thermal management, including organising and running facility and in-territory climatic development work
  • Good understanding of HVAC, climate control, powertrain cooling and vehicle thermal management systems, and their interactions
  • Knowledge of EV/HEV thermal management architectures and challenges
  • Experience with 1D thermal simulation tools such as Flowmaster, Kuli or Amesim would be an advantage
  • Be capable of delivering a high standard of technical support backed up by solid report-writing skills. This will include provision of consultancy and advice to a wide range of customers
  • Be a confident engineer with an ability to understand the needs of the customer, and to work independently as required
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to integrate seamlessly into a team working environment
