Head of Engineering (Land)

Our Client is an internationally successful defence, security, transport and energy company with a long, consistent track record of development and growth.
To support this position, they are seeking a Head of Engineering (Land):
- To set clear technical objectives and vision for allocated programme and/or products and enthuse a clear vision of success both internally and externally
- Provide overall technical leadership to the identified programme resources and ensure that a suitable long term view of programme technical resource requirements is maintained
- Act as Design Authority for allocated programme and/or products and ensure that all development work is undertaken in compliance with agreed processes
- To lead the allocated engineering resources to ensure the successful development, testing, validation and delivery of UEE scope of supply/products
- To ensure that committed technical deliverables are produced on time, to quality and within cost
- To identify and lead opportunities for continuous improvement of UEE technical offerings for allocated programme and/or products in pursuit of improved or enhanced business offerings
- To ensure the development and maintenance of the capability of the allocated team to support the business strategy
- Define, own and publish the technology and development strategies for the allocated programme and/or products
- Maintain a clear, comprehensive understanding of the technical accounts for the allocated programme and/or products a clear understanding of necessary actions to develop/improve as appropriate
- Development of close, long term customer relationships
- Support bid preparation activities, including leadership of technical offerings as required
The preferred candidate will have:
- Proven ability and experience in the successful development and delivery of large engineering development programmes, ideally in the defence arena
- Demonstrable ability to motivate and lead large multi-disciplinary technical teams in development of a range of products and/or technologies
- Experience of leading innovation and development throughout the product life cycle
- Degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline, ideally with a higher degree
- Chartered Engineer preferable, including membership of appropriate engineering institute
- Broad and relevant engineering experience
- Ability to manage through systems and a strong advocate of process compliance
- Excellent communication skills
- Well organised, robust, self motivated team player
- Experience of balancing varying, conflicting and dynamic business priorities to ensure continued business success
- Experience of managing engineering developments at all stages of the engineering development life cycle from initial bid, through launch and development and in to production
