BIW Platform Principal Engineer

Based on a very attractive University campus, this Technical Centre was established in 2005 bringing together the best of European talent and expertise in whole vehicle development. Employing 250 Engineers and Specialists it is now regarded as an engineering centre of excellence. Over £85 million has been invested in the Centre since its foundation with plans for further with headcount growth to 350 this year and into next. Engaged in conventional IC engine, hybrid and electric powered vehicle development, the Centre is located in Coventry, commutable from Birmingham, Leicester, Warwick, Milton Keynes, and Northampton. Opportunities for career development are excellent and the Centre offers engineers a wide range of interesting and challenging projects to work on. A very exciting opportunity has now been created for a BIW Platform Principal Engineer to join the team.

The main activities and tasks for this job are:
- To lead the development of BIW Underbody of a new vehicle platform including concept layout. Material selection, packaging and exterior surface development, DFMEA's, DVP's.
- Manage cross-function design reviews to solve critical project issues.
- Delivery will be achieved using a multi-functional team that will consist of staff, contractors and supplier representatives.
- Interface with the customer to ensure the project milestones and gateways are met and delivered.
- Generate internal Project Timing and Resource Plans to meet Customer Milestones / Gateways.
- Occasional overseas travel will also be necessary.

Candidate requirements:
- Degree or similar qualification
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in BIW Engineering with a good record of leading teams of Engineers and / or acknowledged industry experts.
- Understand the roles and needs of different client groups, with supporting evidence of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
- Ensures procedures and quality standards are clearly communicated and implemented.
- Takes responsibility for process improvement and communicates this to staff at all levels.
- Capable of managing complex projects and providing leadership to a project team of significant size.
- Capable of defining, developing and managing a project autonomously with minimal need for support from a Chief Engineer.
- Possess good logical reasoning
- Chartered Engineer, working toward or prepared to work toward
- The ability to overcome cultural barriers 
 
 
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates will need to be Degree, HND or HNC qualified and be able to demonstrate strong numeracy and literacy skills and have experience in vehicle cooling, engine cooling, engine development, vehicle test or development or sub-system (fan / radiator) development. Although pitched at Principal Engineer level, applications from more junior Engineers with relevant experience seeking a career development opportunity are also welcome.
