UGV Mechatronics Research Engineer

Our client is a leading independent provider of product engineering, research, testing information and certification to the worldwide automotive industry and is based in Warwickshire.

Due to recent expansion and continued growth within the research activity, they are now seeking to appoint a UGV Mechatronics Research Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the ambitious growth of the UGV Research programme.

Reporting to the Principal UGV Research Engineer, the individual will take a pivotal production role in the research and development of Advanced UGV Technology applications.
The individual will be a pro-active and practical member of a small research team for UGV s, responsible for the following:

- Electro-mechanical/electro-pneumatic actuation and payload systems.
- Working closely with Software Engineers and Vehicle Technicians to develop high IP systems from TRL 0 through to TRL 6.
- Develop and implement novel mechatronic systems and integrate with vehicle platforms for advanced technology application areas such as:

advanced semi-autonomous systems;
operator awareness;
command and control systems;
vehicle payload control

- Working closely with UGV Engineers to support transition of new applications to demonstrator platforms through to commercial offerings.
- Supporting UGV customer demonstrations in different locations both UK and overseas.


Promotion prospects are good depending on performance.
Essential Requirements:

- Relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent (e.g. mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, vehicle engineering)
- Typically 3-5 years experience in complex electro-mechanical system design and build.
- Experience of transferring low TRL (Technology Readiness Level) research through to demonstrators.
- Broad experience of electrical and mechanical theory, feedback systems, machine operation, HMI and positioning using a variety of sensors (ideally in a UGV research environment).
- Able to take a systems engineering approach to research and development projects.
- Able to take a team oriented approach to complex problem solving.

Preferred Attributes:

- Post Graduate Degree or equivalent in a technology area closely related to UGV (e.g. robotics, control)
- Specific experience within a vehicle build or research environment and some practical knowledge of embedded processors with supporting electronics.
- Data collection/manipulation and integration from a wide range of sensors.
- Design to recognised standards for safety and reliability, including design for SIL rating.
- Experience with CAD and other modelling/development packages.
