Principal Engineer (Design) - High Pressure Pumps - Advanced Development Phase

A Principal Engineer is required to develop initial concepts through to proven design drawings for new generations of high pressure pumps / components. Responsible for overall design content for the pump and or its components and will direct drafting/design detailer(s) for pump components and other relevant design items.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for FEA analysis and other modelling either directly or through the utilisation of department or other organisation resources. Reporting to the Pump ADP Engineering Manager.

This position is for a World leader in the innovation, design and manufacture of Diesel Fuel Injection equipment.

Products: - New design High Pressure Diesel Fuel Pumps and other pump related components as required.

Lead the design of new generation products through the vision of customer/Delphi requirements and the use of innovative concepts that provide competitive advantage in performance, cost and quality.
Apply FEA / Amesim / Fluent and other relevant numerical analysis tools for the design and optimisation of the product.
Do analysis of other leverage product areas for new ideas to advance the art in pump design (New stretch ideas)
Do patent analysis of competitors and other companies for new idea generation.
Apply ICIM methods using DOE's, 6 Sigma, Green Y and other statistical tools to achieve design robustness. (Training will be provided to fill current gaps in experience level)
Assure GDandT and other drafting standards are applied to new pumps drawings.
Drive design changes that assure the program meets cost, DFM, performance and timing goals.
Participate in Program Project reviews and design reviews.
Develop and present technical presentations to Delphi customers and others on new or current pump programs.

The Principal Engineer would hold an engineering degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent in physics etc.
Experience of developing / supporting a product successfully through to volume production.
Must be capable of planning project technical activities and producing time plans.
Solid experience in design and or development engineering.
Experience in Gasoline or Diesel fuel system components preferred
SolidWorks CAD experience / FEA analysis / Amesim modelling preferred

Personal strengths should include: Confidence, self-directed, goal oriented, customer focused, with strong team interaction skills that facilitate cross-functional involvement.
DOE and statistical analysis knowledge is a plus.
Must be able to constructively deal with conflict situations.
Must be willing to travel for training, work with customers and for problem resolution on projects as necessary.
