Principal Design Engineer

An opportunity for a Principal Design Engineer has arisen with an automotive business involved in the manufacture of aluminium based components and assemblies. The main objective of the role as Principal Design Engineer is to provide Technical, Design and Manufacturing Engineering support for all aspects within the business.
As Principal Design Engineer, you will be responsible for technical support on the following: Aluminium (extrusions, castings, sheet), composites, bonding, welding, pretreatments, corrosion, material properties etc. Manufacturing engineering technical support on the following: Parts fabrication (CNC, pressing, folding), assembly, mechanical fixings, joining processes, welding, fixturing etc. Locator strategy and dimensional tolerancing (GPS) of parts and assemblies. Measurement plans for parts and assemblies. Fabrication and assembly fixture specification and design. Design reviews and specification creation / management. Maintenance of engineering data. Product design support to projects - DFM / DFA. Release and control of engineering data within business. Change management.
You will have a degree in a relevant discipline, ideally automotive or mechanical engineering, combined with a minimum of 5 years working in a similar environment. Any experience or knowledge of aluminium/bonding applications would be advantageous.
